The Population Services International (PSI), in collaboration with the Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MH-NOW) Project, has launched a menstrual health advocacy campaign targeting adolescent girls and young women in Bauchi State.

The initiative, which aims to enhance menstrual health education and support, will focus on Bauchi, Misau, and Katagum local government areas.

Speaking at the end of a two-day state-level menstrual health training for journalists in Bauchi, the Program Officer for Menstrual Health and Hygiene, Gloria Obeth, explained that the project seeks to empower adolescent girls and young women, particularly in rural communities, with knowledge on the safe and proper use of sanitary pads during menstruation.

She commended journalists in Bauchi State for their commitment to raising awareness on menstrual health and hygiene, noting that their role is crucial in educating communities about the importance of menstrual hygiene management.

In their remarks, the Gender Desk Officer at the Bauchi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, Hadiza Isah Ahmad, and a resource person at the training, Zuwaira Baba, praised PSI and MH-NOW for choosing Bauchi as a focal point for their advocacy efforts. They pledged the ministry’s support for the campaign to achieve its objectives.

Speaking on behalf of the journalists who participated in the training, Bulak Afsa of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Bauchi, expressed gratitude to PSI and MH-NOW for organizing the capacity-building session. She assured that the journalists would sustain advocacy efforts by providing consistent education on menstrual health and hygiene to adolescent girls and women across the state.
