The Referees Association of Nigeria has commenced a pre-season fitness test for over 600 selected referees across the northern states in Bauchi.
The training, which prepares the referees physically and mentally, is the number one criteria for the selection of referees for the lower leagues; Nigeria National League, Nationwide League One (NLO) and Women’s league.
Speaking to newsmen at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi, the National President of the association, Mr Tari Azeez, said the choice of Bauchi for the exercise was due to the availability of the needed facilities.
Commenting, the head of referee Unit, NFF, Zubairu Sani, who said that this is the first time northeast is hosting the training, said it is meant to update the knowledge of the referees, especially on the changes in the laws of the game.
Some participants interviewed, lauded the initiative, saying it will further help them improve their activities for a better local league.
