Bala Wunti Support Organisation Distributes 450 Bags of Rice to Persons with Disabilities in Bauchi

The Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) has distributed 450 bags of rice to indigent families of persons living with disabilities (PLWDs) in Jama’are, Ningi and Dass Local Government Areas of Bauchi State as part of its ongoing humanitarian outreach.

During the distribution exercise, 150 bags of rice were presented to 150 beneficiary families in each of the three local government areas.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Jama’are, the Chief Finance Officer of BWSO, Dr. Umar Dauda, said the gesture reflects the vision of Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, which places emphasis on inclusivity and compassion in community development.

According to him, Dr. Wunti directed that persons living with disabilities be prioritised in the organisation’s ongoing statewide rice distribution programme in order to support vulnerable members of society.

Beneficiaries in Jama’are, including Malam Isa Muhammad Wazirin Makafin Jama’are, Malama Aisha Adamu, Murjanatu Abdullahi and Maiunguwa Halilu, expressed appreciation to Dr. Bala Wunti and the organisation for remembering persons living with disabilities, describing the gesture as timely.

They also pledged their support for the political aspirations of Dr. Wunti and appealed for assistance towards the education of their children.

A similar distribution took place in Ningi Local Government Area where 150 bags of rice were presented to 150 families of persons living with disabilities.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sarkin Makafin Ningi and Auwal Sarkin Kurame commended the organisation for the gesture, noting that BWSO remains among the few social institutions working to address socio-economic challenges in Bauchi State.

In Dass Local Government Area, another 150 bags of rice were distributed to 150 indigent families of persons living with disabilities.

Presenting the items in Dass, the Chief Legal Officer of BWSO, Mrs. Elizabeth Rike James, said the organisation’s programmes are guided by the principles of leadership recruitment, mentorship and succession.

She explained that Dr. Wunti’s leadership philosophy emphasises inclusive development and social responsibility, stressing that every segment of society must be carried along in the process of development.

Mrs. James noted that the decision to commence the rice distribution exercise with persons living with disabilities demonstrates the importance attached to the welfare and dignity of vulnerable communities.

Also speaking, the State Chief Coordinator of BWSO, Alhaji Sha’abdin Bello Zalanga, said persons living with disabilities deserve equal opportunities and support in society.

“As responsible members of this society, Dr. Bala Wunti has asked us to convey a clear message that we must collectively work towards ending street begging by empowering vulnerable families. Their children must be given the opportunity to acquire education equal to what every other child in Bauchi State enjoys,” he said.

Zalanga added that the organisation is developing plans to provide vocational skills to persons living with disabilities in order to enable them become self-reliant.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries in Dass, Salihu Aliyu Wakilin Gabas appealed to Dr. Wunti to further assist persons living with disabilities with machines and equipment to ease their daily activities and improve productivity.

Similarly, Malama Jamila Garba, who spoke on behalf of children of persons living with disabilities in the area, appealed for support for women through the provision of start-up capital for small businesses.

She said poverty has forced some women with disabilities into illegal mining activities, exposing them to serious risks.

In a statement issued by the Chief Communication Officer of BWSO, Abubakar Al-Sadique, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive development and nurturing future leaders through mentorship.

According to the statement, the organisation has so far distributed 1,250 bags of rice to 1,250 families of persons living with disabilities across six major towns in Bauchi State.
