The Bauchi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Zainab Babantakko, has outlined key initiatives being implemented to uplift women, particularly those in hard-to-reach areas.
Speaking during the “Transformative Score Card: Media Live Interactive Programme” on Tenure Report and Citizenship Engagement, Hajiya Babantakko revealed that every year, the ministry selects one hundred women from underserved communities and provides each of them with a monthly stipend of ten thousand naira.
She explained that the intervention aligns with the Federal Government’s Gender Policy, which seeks to improve the social, health, and economic wellbeing of women. According to her, Bauchi State, in collaboration with partners, has been reviewing and applying the policy to ensure that its provisions do not conflict with religious and cultural values.
The commissioner also noted that during festive seasons such as Christmas and Sallah, the ministry supports religious organizations and vulnerable groups with financial assistance to enable them to celebrate meaningfully.
Hajiya Zainab Babantakko reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening policies and programmes that enhance the welfare and empowerment of women and children across Bauchi State.
