Bauchi state Agency for the control of AID, Tuberclosis, leprosy and Malaria BACATMA has sought the support of Traditional and religion institution for the success of the distribution of 4.4 million Insecticides treated Mosquito Nets and Anti malaria vaccine for households in Bauchi state.
The executive chairman of the Agency Dr. Sani Muhammad Dambam disclosed this when he led a delegation of stakeholders on an advocacy visit to the palace of District head of Kafin Madaki in Ganjuwa Local government.
Dr. Sani Muhammad Dambam who described malaria as a killer disease caused by plasmodium parasite transmitted person to person through infected female anopheles mosquitoes as a serious threat to life, lamenting that it is a major cause of maternal and child death in Nigeria.
The BACATMA boss urged the traditional institution to Mobilize and monitors the distribution exercise scheduled from 30th June while the Malaria Vaccine will commence from 8 July 2023 to ensure its success.
Also speaking for the Malaria Consortium, Kabiru Algamawai said that the Consortium came into Bauchi State in 2010 and supported 10 local government areas of the State with antimalaria drugs and distributed to more than 75,220 beneficiaries across the State.
He said that in 2021, Malaria Consortium scaled up its intervention to cover all the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State and worked in all the 323 wards where about 1.8 eligible children from 3-59 months were reached.
Algamawai further said that in 2022, the Consortium also supported Bauchi State with antimalarial drugs for more than two million beneficiaries while in 2023, 2.2 million eligible children are being targeted.
Receiving the delegation, the district head of Kafin Madaki Alhaji Baba Muhammad Gidado commended the present administration for it effort to safeguard the citizens against killer diseases and promised their support to achieve the desired goal.
