Barrister Safiyanu Gambo Idrees, the aspirant for the chairmanship Bauchi State branch of the Nigeria Bar has pledged to work towards the passage of a Bill for the Establishment of the Bauchi State Law Reforms Commission in the state if elected.
The pledge contained in his 2023 NBA 2023 elections campaign manifesto, explains that the commission has been established in some neighbouring states such as Kano and Plateau states.
“Under my watch, the Bauchi Bar will work towards the passage of a Bill for the Establishment of the Bauchi State Law Reforms Commission as is the case in our neighbouring states of Kano, Plateau and others in the country to ensure a more up-to-date legal regime in our jurisdiction. In keeping with section 3(5) which provides: “Promotion and support of law reform.”
He said he will work within the confined rules of the NBA Constitution to promote its aims and objectives as well as ensure its integrity and independence.
He also vowed to provide a modern BAR centre in the state, ensure continuing legal education, and collaboration with other bodies and organizations as well as promotion of rule of law and human rights.
He added that if elected, he will ensure collaboration with the office of the Attorney General of the state to ensure that indigent clients are fully represented by counsel at the expense of the government.
The lawyer started his legal career when he was admitted into the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), and graduated with LLB Hons, from where he proceeded to the Bagauda-Kano Campus of the Nigerian Law School for his Bachelor of Laws and was eventually called to the Nigerian Bar in 2011 as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
