Bauchi State has taken a significant step toward economic transformation with the commencement of the groundbreaking ceremony for a 50-million-ton capacity cement plant in Gwana, Alkaleri Local Government Area. The project, a result of a strategic partnership between the Bauchi State Government and Resident Cement Company Limited, is expected to boost industrialization, create employment opportunities, and enhance the state’s economic landscape.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Natural Resources, Muhammad Maiwada Bello, described the event as historic, marking the foundation of a future defined by self-reliance and economic growth. He attributed the milestone to the visionary leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, who has been at the forefront of driving economic revitalization in the state.
“This project is more than just the commencement of drilling; it is the foundation for a future of limitless opportunities. Under His Excellency’s leadership, Bauchi State is ushering in a new era of industrialization, prioritizing sustainable development, job creation, and wealth generation,” Bello stated.
The commissioner recalled that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bauchi State Government and Resident Cement Company in August 2024 marked a turning point in the state’s economic trajectory. He commended Dr. Abbas Waziri, Group Chairman of Resident Cement, and his team for their confidence in Bauchi State’s investment potential, emphasizing that the enabling business environment created by Governor Bala has made the state an attractive destination for investors.
Bello highlighted the significance of the cement plant as more than just a structure, noting that it would serve as a catalyst for growth by generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs. He expressed optimism that the project would position Bauchi State to compete favorably in the global industrial sector.
In an emotional conclusion, the commissioner praised Governor Bala’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, acknowledging his role in creating opportunities for young people in the state.
“Your Excellency, your administration has laid a foundation that gives young people hope, opportunities, and a sense of belonging. This is not just governance; it is a legacy of empowerment. On behalf of every young person whose life you have touched, I say thank you,” he added.
The ceremony was attended by top government officials, investors, and stakeholders in the industrial sector, all of whom expressed optimism about the impact of the cement plant on Bauchi State’s economic growth and development.
