Bauchi state First Lady, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Muhammad has voiced concerns over the rampant drug abuse plaguing society, linking it to insecurity and other social ills.
Addressing a meeting at her office, she called for a united front in combatting drug abuse for a safer and more prosperous community.
The first lady stated this at an event organized by the Bauchi Drug Free Initiative and the state Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, for the official societal re-integration of 120 youths who underwent treatment for substance use disorders.
Expressing his gratitude, one of the beneficiaries, Abdullahi Isah Tere commended the First Lady’s support, acknowledging the positive impact of the program on their lives.
Hajiya Aishatu Bala Muhammad promised to continue using her office in supporting women and youths in Bauchi state so as to be more productive.
Guest speaker, Dr. Fawwaz Babandi, who is a consultant psychiatrist at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University teaching hospital Bauchi highlighted the detrimental effects of substance abuse, urging people to steer clear.
Correspondent Zainab Faruk reports that the First Lady was honored as a lifetime humanitarian for her dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable individuals.
Wrapping up the event, each of the 120 beneficiaries received a bag of rice, courtesy of the Bauchi state First Lady.
